At North Albany Senior High School, student leadership, wellbeing, and active community involvement are at the heart of our school culture.
Across all year levels, our NASHS student Councillors participate in meaningful programs that help them grow as contributors, leaders, and responsible citizens.
Below is an overview of the key initiatives that drove positive change across our school in 2025.
Sustainability Initiatives
In 2025, students demonstrated strong commitment to environmental responsibility through hands‑on sustainability projects, including:
- Year 9 Sustainability Proposal: A student group developed a plan for a student‑managed vegetable garden and composting system. The proposal was formally presented to the Principal and Manager Corporate Services on 18 September.
- Recycling Leadership: Student leaders collected classroom and shared‑area recycling each week, ensuring correct sorting and disposal.
- Science Garden & Environmental Programs: The Science area maintained an active garden and participated in fauna studies, senior school environmental projects, and the Solar Energy Car Challenge.
- Energy‑Smart Design: The school continued its use of solar panels and passive solar principles to reduce energy consumption.
Community Engagement
Students represented NASHS with pride in a variety of community partnerships and volunteer activities:
- Faction Captains supported local primary school carnivals and community events.
- Participation in Zero to Hero fundraising and safeTALK mentoring workshops.
- Fundraising for Youth Focus – Hawaiian Ride for Youth.
- Clontarf Academy students mentored younger primary‑aged students.
- Engagement in community workshops, including City of Albany Bi‑centenary events.
- Active participation in the school’s ANZAC Assembly.
Student‑Led Leadership and Voice
Student leadership continued to grow, providing opportunities for students to influence school culture and develop leadership skills:
- Student Council initiatives promoting student voice.
- Participation in the Albany Changemakers Project (pictured).
- Year 8 involvement in the Minister’s Innovation Challenge.
- Student‑run Break Clubs offering various interest‑based activities.
- Representation on the Mental Health Week Working Party.
- Media Team support for school events and communications.
- School Captains serving on the School Board.
- Student contributions to planning committees for Leavers Jumpers, the School Ball, and Year 11 & 12 Dinners.

Wellbeing, Inclusion and School Culture
NASHS continued to foster an inclusive and supportive school environment through a range of wellbeing and cultural initiatives:
- Celebration of significant events: Mental Health Week, Harmony Week, NAIDOC Week, and Wear It Purple Day.
- Provision of Chill Zones for student connection and downtime.
- Workshops including Red Frogs, Man Up, and additional wellbeing programs.
- End‑of‑year activities acknowledging and celebrating Year 12 students.
- Stickybeak Day welcoming Year 10–11 students into senior school pathways.
- Academic support through Webex tutoring, Wednesday Homework Club, and Elevate Education study skills workshops.
- A wide selection of Break Clubs, including art, board games, chess, book club, craft, and Dungeons & Dragons.
